God Will Pay You Back

Joel @ Lakewood Church

• Don't let one bad break get you down. What someone does doesn't stop your destiny because God has the last stay.

Exodus 3:7-8 And the Lord said: "I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows. So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites.

• God always makes the enemy pay.

Isaiah 61:7 Because you got a double dose of trouble and more than your share of contempt, Your inheritance in the land will be doubled and your joy go on forever.

Isaiah 61:3 ...To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified."

Dawn the girl who grew up at the shelter and worked as a janitor at her school then ended up going to Harvard.

Psalm 27:10 When my father and my mother forsake me, Then the Lord will take care of me.

• God will settle your case.

Hebrews 10:30 For we know him who said, "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," and again, "The Lord will judge his people."

• Job said this during his hard times:

Job 19:25 I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth.

"Power of Potential: Strategic Tactics for A Remnant Seed"

Psalm 24:6 Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob.

1. Jacob carried the stigma of his name everywhere he went: it means "trickster".
• He was raised in house that pushed him toward the definition or his name.
• He wanted to please God.

2. Your potential doesn't give you the victory.
• The youth today are in a microwave generation, thinking it doesn't take work.
• That refers to everything including your relationship with God.

3. Until you see yourself as a solution, you will be a part of the problem.
• Your obedience can be someone's ticket to heaven.
• There is no one else who can do what you do.

4. Israel was the action side.
•  When Jacob became Israel, he quit the life of half-hearted service to God.
•  We usually don't recognize all our errors, but we also fail to realize when we have made a significant turn for the better but God does and gives us a new name.

5. This is the Jacob generation: The tricky generation stuck in the middle.

Making a Deposit Everywhere You Go

Joel @ Lakewood Church

When you make a deposit, you make people feel good about themselves.

• Go out of your way to show respect.

• God will use your encouraging words to breathe life into someone.

Be aware of the people God puts in your life, they are there for a reason.

• God has no arms, voice, or hands except ours.

• You don't know what impact you will have by just doing your thing.

Hebrews 3:13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called "Today," so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness.

• DAILY

• Every person has something great about themselves, we should look for that.

• It's easy to be critical.

Our thoughts don't bless anyone; love isn't love until you give it away.

There are more outlets for negativity so I need to turn up the positivity and be outspoken in my support.

Galatians 6:9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

You can't live in the past and expect to prosper in the future.

Psalm 121:1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from?

If you feel a cloud over your life, figure out what you've been thinking about.

The Ups and Downs of Life

Hannah @ L56

1. On roller coasters, it's very easy to get scared. Because you can't get off without killing yourself and it's out of your control

  • Roller coasters don't care about your feelings: it doesn't matter whether or not you are enjoying the ride, you have to stay on it until the end.
  • Sometimes you want the roller coaster to last longer, but once the ride is over you have to get off and get back in line, ride another ride, or go home.

2. Whatever happens in life is something that God allowed to happen.
  • A. If God lets a bad thing happen then God also has a way out of the situation: you won't stay there.
  • B. Even when good things happen, it's something that God allowed to happen to. It's easy to believe that it was all because of you when it's not. It's something that Got allowed to happen.

3. God is always with you through the ups and downs of life.

  • Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Not Settling for Good Enough

Joel Osteen @ Lakewood Church

Too many people are living with things that are less than God's best.

•1 Corinthians 2:9 However, as it is written:"What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived"—the things God has prepared for those who love him
-"Good enough" is not my destiny.

•Genesis 38:27 When her time came to give birth, it turned out that there were twins in her womb. As she was giving birth, one put his hand out; the midwife tied a red thread on his hand, saying, "This one came first." But then he pulled it back and his brother came out. She said, "Oh! A breakout!" So she named him Perez (Breakout). Then his brother came out with the red thread on his hand. They named him Zerah (Bright).

-We all have 2 people on the inside of us: 1 wants to settle and the other wants to stretch.

•Deuteronomy 1:6 Back at Horeb, god, our God, spoke to us: "You've stayed long enough at this mountain. On your way now. Get moving. Head for the Amorite hills, wherever people are living in the Arabah, the mountains, the foothills, the Negev, the seashore—the Canaanite country and the Lebanon all the way to the big river, the Euphrates. Look, I've given you this land. Now go in and take it. It's the land god promised to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and their children after them."

-Just because I give up doesn't mean that God has given up.

-J.J. Watt settled delivering pizzas and remembered that he was destined to play football

  • "...Watt attended Central Michigan University for one year, 2007, before transferring to Wisconsin. While there, he played tight end and caught eight passes for 77 yards. Frustrated by his lack of direction at Central Michigan, he left school and began delivering pizzas. After a somber encounter with a fan, he regained his focus, telling himself, "I don't want to be delivering pizzas. I want to be playing football."[2] Shortly after, he enrolled at Wisconsin. • Genesis 11:31-32 Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot (Haran's son), and Sarai his daughter-in-law (his son Abram's wife) and set out with them from Ur of the Chaldees for the land of Canaan. But when they got as far as Haran, they settled down there. Terah lived 205 years. He died in Haran.

-Don't build a house where you should be pitching a tent.

-The first place I lose the battle is in my mind.

-If you don't see what God has placed inside you, see that as temporary...dont settle there.

Numbers 13:28 "We went to the land to which you sent us and, oh! It does flow with milk and honey! Just look at this fruit! The only thing is that the people who live there are fierce, their cities are huge and well fortified. Worse yet, we saw descendants of the giant Anak. Amalekites are spread out in the Negev; Hittites, Jebusites, and Amorites hold the hill country; and the Canaanites are established on the Mediterranean Sea and along the Jordan."

-They saw God's goodness in the wilderness; they were too easily satisfied.
